HEY GOOD LOOKIN'

So, it's been a while! Reetsweet had a bit of break in 2014 due to my ever so hectic schedule as a social media monkey for a fashion brand!  I've learnt a LOT in the past year and I miss the buzz of the fairs and so I'm back and planning a fair in Nov and again in Spring '16...

This is my face - hi!

Submissions are open, and you can apply here until 16th August, the after careful deliberations the stall holders will all be notified by Aug 23rd so you have plenty of time to get yourself ready!  A big thanks to all the makers who have said such kind things about the fairs, the Leeds Corn Exchange for hosting us and the awesome customers who make it all happen!!

See you in November and look out for sneaky previews and competitions on here and on our new Instagram page so get you in the mood for some awesome handmade...

I dream in pattern: Meet 'Punto Belle'

If you had the chance to make your own print and design your dream pattern - would it be light and airy, small and pretty or bold and fun? 'Punto Belle' aka Lois would most certainly be described as the latter - bold, fun - with a little bit of aztec, crazy and beautiful all thrown in. Only 24, and with a degree in textile design Lois dreams of opening her own shop and designs beautifully handcrafted accessories out of her own patterned fabrics;

'Since I began Punto Belle I have dreamed about designing my own fabrics, as I did study textile design at university I know that my skills of pattern making couldn't go to waste so, I cracked on and began designing. I can't tell you how much happier I am now I have my own fabrics, I believe that this is a whole new chapter of Punto Belle and I believe that good things will come from this decision. My first ever fabric collection, called Go Geometric is just the start as I plan to release new fabrics every season correlating with new colour trends and seasons patterns.

You can read all about Lois' exploits and designs on her lovely blog here, or come and chat to her at reetsweet on Dec 7th.

Little cutie: Meet Yee Ting Yuit

At reetsweet we continue to be surprised and delighted by the work that is submitted to us and the joy it often brings: life can be tough but it's these little things that add a smile to people's days and that's important.

The work of Yee Ting Yuit sums up this joy; it's full of humour, colour and love and we're proud to have her at the December event.

Yee graduated from Falmouth College of Arts and works full time freelance creating logos, design and website visuals and also has her own online shop. She loves tea, sushi and crochet. Our ideal kind of lady!

Oct Fair: new maker 'Pickled tees'

We always strive to give new makers a chance to showcase their work, and we are in love with the artwork that Lisa Pickles aka 'Pickled Tees' sent to us to get into the Oct fair.

'I illustrate and hand screen print my slightly quirky and unique designs onto quality, fashionably fitted Tshirts.
I use environmentally friendly water-based inks that have a nice soft feel on the fabric...'

There is exquisite detail, craziness and awkward femininity in these illustrations and as soon as we saw her submission we thought that Lisa is maker that will definitely be going far in future - just remember you saw her here first!

june fair: new maker preview stephanie lawson

At reetsweet we love working with and promoting new local talent; Stephanie Lawson is new to reetsweet, only 19 and from newcastle, currently still studying her in 2nd year of Graphic Design at the prestigious Leeds College of Art.

'My work is very much influenced by my surroundings, if a song happens to be played whilst I have pen or paper, or if someones drinking or eating something I get an immediate want to draw it!'

She describes her work as light hearterd and decorative, primarily illustrative, working in range of medias, she says she is most influenced by Kate Sutton - through her hand rendered typography.  For reetsweet she will selling a range of cards and lovely summery screen printed totes, she hopes to one day open a store of her own to sell her work.  You can view her online portfolio here.

Our fair will be at leeds corn exchange on sat june 2nd from 10 to 5pm - see you there to take a peek at Stephanie's work!

Reetsweet launched in 2009, and Jade Devall joined us on one of our earliest escapades, and is going from strength to strength with her originally designed collection - including bone china, cushions and tea towels. New to her range, and especially popular has been her latest work involving a host of friendly owls!  We also especially love this cityscape jug...head over to our website www.reetsweet.com/events to find out how to find us.

hello leeds: easter fair preview of Catherine Summers Design

New to reetsweet Catherine Summers is a unique artist working with ceramics and textiles, she produces lovely original illustrations with a sweet and innocent feel. Bunny rabbits, giraffes, pugs and other animals are brought to life in stark black and white designs and used in her tea collection, and also on a range of cushions and toys.

hello leeds: easter fair previews!

Wow doesn't time fly? It seems like yesterday we were putting up christmas trees, and here I am about to talk to you about the easter fair! Well, it's the perfect time of year for craft easter I think, spring is springing, and there's chocolate eggs and lambs in the fields. It's awesome. A great time to spruce up your home with something lovely a handmade, and you can't go wrong with anything made by these guys...

Foxbunting
are always a big hit at reetsweet, Brionny and her friend both try their hand at a range of crafts - from illustration to crocheting, to cushion making! Their biggest hit with the crowd (and one that gets a lot of people talking) is the crochet taxidermy heads, I think these two will go on to BIG THINGS, they have imagination in buckletloads and are lovely ladies...
