Oct fair preview: Yee Illustration

As ever, we have a heap of new makers attending each fair, and at the October there seems to be a bit of a bumper crop!

We are proud to bring you Yee Ting Yuit, aka Yee Illustration...purveyor of lovely cards and small printed items...

'I graduated with First Class honours on the BA (Hons) Illustration course from Falmouth College of Arts in 2006.
I have been working freelance ever since on a broad range of projects.

My work is influenced by pattern, texture, bright, bold colours, typography and different printmaking techniques.
Outside of illustration I like to bake, watch football, drink tea, knit and crochet.'

Oct Fair New maker: Jamie Mills

(jamie mills in disguise...spooky!)

New to reetsweet, and doing some truly original work at the moment, we are proud to introduce you to the very talented Jamie Mills... an artist and illustrator currently residing in the hills of the Yorkshire countryside. There, he draws the textures, shapes and patterns of landscapes unknown and the stories in his head...

'I'm currently feeling really inspired by scientific, natural history drawings and how they are catalogued. I've always collected lots of things (bones, rocks, minerals, fossils, pine cones, plants etc) and have just started to really enjoy drawing these, learning more about them and cataloguing them in a kind of semi-scientific way. I think, over the last year or so, I've let the true observational drawing side of what I do slip a bit which is something I'm trying to rectify at the moment.'

Jamie has been a busy guy, the other week he was at the International Alternative Press Festival http://www.alternativepress.org.uk/ plus he's had a couple of drawings in exhibitions this month and he will be appearing at a few more fairs and exhibitions this winter.

We asked Jamie what kind of animal he would be, other than Jamie Mills, he said:

'I wouldn't mind being the lizard that I just found in my garden, aside from being a little lost he seemed like he had things pretty much worked out.'

Catch Jamie at the next reetsweet at Leeds Corn Exchange sat 6th Oct...it's free to come down, as always, and we have a free learn to knit workshop too!  Come see us!

Oct fair preview: 'Ladybird Likes'

 (maker zoe)

I can't get enough jewellery, it's an OBSESSION I have, that I have to be careful of.  Tatty Devine, Mawi, and many many etsy makers...my pinterest jewellery board is overflowing!

So, I am delighted that one of my all time top makers is coming to the Oct Reetsweet fair on Oct 6th at Leeds Corn Exchange...so exciting!

'Ladybird Likes' was started by Zoe Jade as a way to sell the things she created out of repurposed vintage doodads. It has since evolved into a business selling handmade jewellery and paper goods, all of which are still heavily influenced by the things Zoe finds at car boot sales and junk shops, and many items are made using original vintage papers and fabrics.

From wooden butterfly necklaces made using French nature illustrations, to vintage ephemera packs containing papers handpicked from Zoe's personal stash, there is sure to be something to please everyone!
