New to reetsweet Catherine Summers is a unique artist working with ceramics and textiles, she produces lovely original illustrations with a sweet and innocent feel. Bunny rabbits, giraffes, pugs and other animals are brought to life in stark black and white designs and used in her tea collection, and also on a range of cushions and toys.
We at reetsweet have a feeling that Catherine (who has only recently graduated as a mature student) will be very popular at this fair so pop down early on april 7th to make sure you get to see the whole range - simply beautiful!
'Witshop' first joined us at christmas and we are very pleased to welcome them back for the april fair on the 7th...they make the most original and beautifully finished cards, stationery and wrapping goods...mmm, aztec!!
Their range is all handmade, or hand-finished in-house using a variety of printing techniques - from lino cuts to letterpress, to screen printing and risographing. There is an emphasis on the quality of traditional print techniques, the textures of paper and the simplicity of raw materials. Always keen to be green, they use recycled papers and packaging and sourcing materials and production within the UK...
We are very intrigued by our next booking for the leeds april show, on saturday 7th; 'The beating arts' are a Leeds based collective of artists working accross a broad range of mediums - leather, illustration, print and jewellery - the sneaky pictures here show an interesting mix of modern work, stay tuned as we prowl through more previews this week!
To keep up to date with all the blog entries, get alerts for events and news and general chatter please follow @reetsweet.
I'm not keen on much cross stitch - not because I don't appreciate the skill and patience involved in it - but mostly because much of it has been done before. However, throw in something a little bit different and make it new - and I'm on it like a scotch bonnet!! On etsy my friend mother eagle is doing some amazing work, and at april reetsweet Sarah Fordham will be showing you some of her work in this super cute medium...
Introducing 'Magasin' by Sarah Fordham; specialising in Cross Stitch and Embroidery, she has created a selection of Jewellery, Accessories and Decorative Homewares.
Most known for her over-sized Cross Stitch Badges which have been worn by the likes of Radio DJ and TV presenter Fearne Cotton! Her work features moustaches, birds, 'jerk' badges...Ooh - fancy! (and funny!) Check out her etsy coverage here!
Wow doesn't time fly? It seems like yesterday we were putting up christmas trees, and here I am about to talk to you about the easter fair! Well, it's the perfect time of year for craft easter I think, spring is springing, and there's chocolate eggs and lambs in the fields. It's awesome. A great time to spruce up your home with something lovely a handmade, and you can't go wrong with anything made by these guys...
Foxbunting are always a big hit at reetsweet, Brionny and her friend both try their hand at a range of crafts - from illustration to crocheting, to cushion making! Their biggest hit with the crowd (and one that gets a lot of people talking) is the crochet taxidermy heads, I think these two will go on to BIG THINGS, they have imagination in buckletloads and are lovely ladies...
Catch them at reetsweet's easter fair on sat 7th april - leeds corn exchange, see here for more info....more updates in the next few days, featuring more new makers and news!
Thanks to all the lovely customers that came out in force to the Sheffield event on saturday, it was a beautiful sunny day! There were some amazing makers on show, pop over to the facebook page to view the gallery or go to www.reetsweet.com to have a look...
Previews for our next event which is in Leeds @ The Corn Exchange on Sat april 7th, will be starting shortly...see you soon!
We aren't ones to boast, but tomorrow's fair in Sheffield at the Millennium Gallery is shaping up to be a belter so please bob down and take a peek, it's free and we are open until 5pm - just 2 mins walk from the train station!...
What can you expect?
Reetsweet is no ordinary craft fair, we handpick only the best quality crafts, and the most original makers around to bring you something worth leaving the high street behind for. You'll find original art, jewellery, printmaking, homewares including textiles and ceramics, upcycling - you name it, it's here, and it's all a little bit different to what you think of as 'craft'.
We began in 2010 with a mission - to campaign against crap craft and the general old fuddy duddy image of crafting and put on fairs that showcase modern, fashionable craft at it's best...so get down and show your support tomorrow...see you there!
New to reetsweet on saturday, we will be joined by Deborah of 'Moonko' a lovely little independent designer/maker shop in the heart of sheffield...
'Deborah is an artist in her own right, having exhibited in Kobe Japan, Habitat, Cork Street London and through MoonKo supports emerging artists and makers by selling and promoting their work in places like Urban Outfitters, Kensington and a little indie shop in the Nichols Building, sheffield. Moonko collaborates with artists and designers such as Faunagraphic, The Aviairy, Alexia Claire.'
You can find some of these beautiful and bespoke pieces on the MoonKo stall at the Reetsweet Craft Fair on Saturday from 11am at The Millennium Gallery, 2 mins walk from the station...
One of my favourite things to collect is embroidery, I like quirky pieces, and have an awful lot of time for this lady - Hayley Wright who runs 'Born Restless'...
'Born Restless is a collection of embroidered art and jewellery, made by someone who is trying to live a little better and work a little less. Currently living in Manchester, I make most of the things you’ll see on here in my bedroom at night, whilst listening to ghost stories on the radio.
I’m inspired by ideas of home and memory, the occult, and the psychology of serial killers, as well as anything else that seems like a great idea at the time.'
See you soon Sheffield!
Happy weekend! It's just a week to go until our event at The Millennium Gallery, Sheffield on Sat 10th March ... And there's still a lot of makers that we haven't revealed yet, and secrets up our sleeve, we open at 11am, and the first 10 people through the door will receive a prize, so make sure you get down fast!
Sian Wheatcroft is joining us from 'Strawberry Kitten', Sian made one of my favourite things ever - a panda bear that sits in my bedroom wearing a scarf (hey, I never said I was mature!) and she has a unique talent for making lovely bears and homewares that adults and kids can enjoy - they are not only super cute, but also super stylish! I am very excited about her new pieces...
