I am going further north to glasgow for a few days but wanted to leave you with a little gem, KIEL MEAD is a fantastic jewelley/furniture designer. He makes absolutely brilliant pieces that have style and a sense of hmour, from forget me knots to matchsticks, his gold and silver pieces have a lovely edge to them. I will be saving my pennies! Have a lovely weekend in the north!Check out http://kielmead.com/index.html
Get down to where 'the courtyard' used to be to the brand new 'nation of shopkeepers' for their jumble and vintage sale this sunday - it's 12pm till 5pm@ 27 - 37 Cookridge Street, Leeds, LS2 3AG. Hosted by the fabulous people who run 'the affordable vintage fashion fair' in the north. Don't miss out!
Did you know that when you shop on etsy you can shop locally and focus your searches on not only Uk items but Leeds items!! A fantastic jeweller 'mother eagle' is based here in our very own city creating little vintage pieces of lust...http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5896196....
I love how it combines vintage charms along with a jasper stone. Prettiness!
'Passion Pit' have just released their first full length album 'Manners' - if you haven't heard their first EP 'Chunk of change' sample that first. They produce infectious, poppy and very danceable songs with heart. I love them so much, have just got the album and I think it's genius and perfect for summery days. Their artwork is very nice and angular too. I would like this one fromthe EP on a tee:
The current 80s sports chic trend turns me right off. It's great if you're a teeny tiny lady with no curves but put me in an american apparel bodysuit and you'll be laughing so hard you'll wee a bit. I am currently enjoying a love of the 60s...twiggy, pretty eye makeup (sweepy black liner) and a-line dresses. Today's mantra is: Stick with a look that suits you rather than be a topshop slave. I take heart when I see the lady who works in thorntons arcade boutique no 15. That lady doesn't wear lycra or 80's prints or a crazy fluoro turban! Instead she knows which red lippy to wear and has the sleekest bob and nicest black/grey hair au naturel. She's Leeds' answer to Coco Chanel. Nice style if you can get it. We heart h

I have recently begun downsizing by wardrobe a little, most of my old clothes go to the local charity shop, a few more expensive items I usually resell on ebay but lately I have also been on a mission repairing broken seams and getting the local cobbler! Sexy. You can re-invent your wardrobe just by getting rid of what doesn't fit you, cleaning out what you don't feel you suit anymore and keeping your best bits that suit your shape. Be ruthless. But there's definitely going to be items that you can rescue that simply need some TLC. I always go to Jim's place the cobbler by the corn exchange for shoe repairs, it never seems to charge over £5 for anything! And I go to my local sewsmith in armley for all broken zips etc. The credit crunch will pass and it's a good time to simplify your clothes pile. For all his cheesiness Gok Wan is ri

Headbands have been a big thing lately, I used to make mine out of old bits of cotton and simply make a bow around my head when I'm lazing around but there are better alternatives in the etsy shop of 'deedoubleyou'. Find her and these amazing headband designs at: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5381626 where she will make you anything to order. You need never have a bad hair day again lazy laydees.
It's probably not too cool to say you sit at home most nights either watching a documentary or cooking but sod it, I like what I like. And I really like ADAM CURTIS. He is a documentary filmmaker with an esquisite style, like a visual argument his films slam you with one idea after another coupled with fantastic stock footage. His films make you want a revolution and give you a fresh take on the world you simply cannot miss getting hold of 'The Trap' about the west's lack of any real freedom. It's like a cold shower for your brain matter. (Plus it uses the music from the film 'Starman' at one point which I bloody love)Read more about him on wiki : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Curtis
If you like summer, you like guitars and sexy sounding french dudes...you'll love PHOENIX. Their new album 'Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix' has been on my speakers all day long. Woop!
55 PREVIEW is a new label I stumbled accross a few months ago, they create fun subversive tees and bags (and a few other pieces) taking inspiration from Louis Vuitton and Chanel. It's fun, it's cheaper than the real deal and my god it's simply a lot easier to wear. I heart knock-offs and fun tees!

Some time ago before we were consumed by juicy couture, all took to wanting to style ourselves like the stars of Emmerdale (yes, you read it right, 'Emmerdale') by way of 99p gossip magazine guides with step by step instructions on how to look as boring as possible, there was fun in dressing up. People could wear clothes and have a laugh, even be ironic, or try to be unflattering to their figures for a bit of edge! Less 'chic', more geek!
YOKOO (see pic) is now a very well known accessories specialist on the fantastic Etsy.com, I highly recommend taking a lesson from this lady on style and business acumen. What a shame we don't get to read about people like her in our womens' magazines and instead get to hear what Cheryl Cole wants to change about her bodyshape. Hmph! There's a great interview with her on Etsy if you're interested...

Bonjour from sunny Leeds! Sunny, that is, for a change. Despite the fabulous weather I have mostly been thinking ahead lately and these turbulent moneygeddon-times and planning some out of season fashion purchases such as this sweater dress by KIND KNITWEAR a much coveted luxury brand from the Netherlands to keep me warm when normal service returns in autumn.
My advice for buying out of season is this - go for quality, timeless items that were either stone cold staples (a nice mac, a good plain jumper) or quirky things that were never really in fashion so they won't date. KIND is good because their stuff is different and edgy and generally not high fashion in the sense that it will look totally out of place next winter because it never fitted into any obvious trend anyway.
